Mrs. Cathryn Appleby, who comes from a musical family, studied musical theater at the Boston University Theatre Institute and, as a mezzo-soprano, she studied Vocal Performance at the University of Evansville Music Conservatory where she received her Bachelor’s of Music. She has since gone on to perform in a variety of productions, as well as study with several young artist programs including the Crested Butte Music Festival, Peach State Opera’s workshop productions, and as a soloist with the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra.
Her method as a vocal instructor incorporates the many aspects of singing, with an emphasis on healthy vocal technique, body alignment, and breath support, as well as character development, diction and articulation. As both an instructor of voice and beginner piano, body alignment and proper technique are emphasized for ease of expression and resonance.
Students of voice and beginner piano are taught, amongst many things, basic music theory, sight reading, and the art of practicing on their own time outside of lessons. They will be introduced to a wide variety of level and age appropriate repertoire consisting of largely musical theater and classical art song. Mrs. Cathryn fosters a positive environment of encouragement and acceptance; a judgement-free zone. Every lesson is a space for self-expression, inquisitiveness, and fun!
